The Congleton Food Hub has received a donation of £360 from a team of stitchers, who raised the money by making face masks for the community to purchase.

Alison Cann made the masks alongside a team of Bear Town stitchers, which consisted of Maggie Bentley, Joyce Matthews, Linda Sherwood, Carole Sergeant, Angie and Rachel James, Lesley Mellor and Jan Williamson.

Donations from the Congleton community and Mrs Cann's colleagues from Thompson Airways resulted in £360 being raised for Congleton Food Hub.

The money will go towards the food hub buying further supplies as they continue to deliver essential items to Congleton and its surrounding areas during the coronavirus pandemic.

Mrs Cann thanked her brother-in-law James Whitehead, who provided packaging, Jenny Joyce, who owns Bubblitex Farm Fabrics in Siddington, who donated fabric and one of Mrs Cann's colleagues from TUI, who also donated fabric.

Shaun Radcliffe, who runs the Congleton Food Hub, said: "Thank you to Alison, all the crew and everybody who has donated, this money is going to help so much.

"We do get donations, but we do run out of products that we have to go shopping for.

"Thank you to the whole community of Congleton, you have all been absolutely amazing, if it wasn't for the community, we wouldn't have been able to do what we have done.

"There is ten of us here and I know I started it, but it's classed as a team of 10 and with Alison's group, it's been a great team effort.

"We're carrying on, but we are doing it week by week now until we are told any different."

There are some masks still available at £2 each, and with shops continuing to open in the next couple of weeks, Mrs Cann stated that the group of sewers could continue making more.

The food hub was previously based at the town hall, but a decision was made to relocate, and you can now find the team of volunteers at the Vale Club pub on Canal Street.

Residents can make cash donations, which will enable the team to continue to purchase food and supplies and support the community throughout this difficult and uncertain time.

You can donate through PayPal to: [email protected] (Click the family and friends option, so no money is taken off the donation)

The PayPal account is being monitored and all receipts will be kept on record.

Cash donations can also be accepted but must be in a sealed envelope inside a plastic bag.

If you or anyone you know needs help, please do not hesitate to get in touch with Shaun Radcliffe - 07825 408377.

You can also contact Deborah Jupp through Congleton chat's back, who will pass messages/requests onto the team.
