An electrical fault is thought to be the cause of a blaze at a property in Congleton that took around five hours to tackle.

Crews were called out to an address on Harvey Road, in Buglawton, Congleton, shortly before 3.50pm yesterday (May 11th).

Three fire engines attended from Congleton, Alsager and Lymm along with aerial ladder platforms from Macclesfield and Lymm.

On arrival crews discovered that the fire was in the loft of the brick-built house and no-one was unaccounted for, but the fire was affecting the roof's timber structure.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Two firefighters entered the loft and began fighting the fire with a hose reel jet.

"The gas and the electricity supplies to the property were isolated and once the fire looked to be out aerial ladder platforms were used to remove roof tiles, expose the timber structure and check for hotspots."

Temperatures were monitored with a thermal imaging camera.

The spokesperson continued: "All areas affected by the fire were exposed and all roof tiles damaged by it were removed.

"The loft was the only part of the house that sustained fire damage."

Firefighters left the scene once they were satisfied that the fire was fully out and the property was safe.
