Twenty vehicles were clocked speeding on a Congleton road yesterday (Monday).

Congleton West Police officers, armed with a hand-held speed gun, were on Newcastle Road (30 mph speed limit) monitoring traffic after concerns from residents.

A Cheshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "PSCO Hooper was out with the enforceable speed gun on the A34 Newcastle Road from 4:10pm to 5:15pm.

"20 activations over that time, which is 20 too many."

Speed enforcement was also carried out on the same road on Friday morning (24th July) between 9:30am to 10:30am, where 10 vehicles were found to have been exceeding the speed limit.

Congleton Police Officers are one week into a six week Road Safety operation #OpAssembles.

Speed checks will be commenced daily in hotspots all around Congleton and the surrounding areas. This is in response to concerns residents have about speeding.
