All of the venues in and around Congleton taking part in Heritage Open Days 2025
England's largest festival of history and culture is back.
Heritage Open Days returns this month, running from September 12 to 21.
More than 5,800 free events will be taking place across the country, offering the public a chance to explore historic sites and try out new experiences.
Liam Montgomery, Heritage Open Days marketing and projects manager, said: "2025 is set to offer the most ambitious and wide-reaching Heritage Open Days programme yet, and it's brimming with great things to do.
"Whether it's well-known landmarks and hidden architectural gems or community-led talks and immersive experiences, the sheer diversity of places and stories on offer is extraordinary. It's a testament to the passion and dedication of local organisers and volunteers who make this celebration of our shared heritage possible."
Below, we have put together a guide to all of the events taking place within a five mil radius of Congleton town centre.
Congleton Bath House and Physic Garden
Built by the owners of a nearby house, Congleton Bath House is a rare survivor of the 18th and 19th-century passion for health-giving cold-water bathing.
The Psychic Garden, meanwhile, contains a range of plants that have been used throughout history, both in medicine and in the textile industry.
A medical herbalist representing the Herb Society will lead tours of the gardens between 10am and 4pm on September 20, with guided tours of the bath house taking place throughout the day.
There will also be activities for children, organised by Congleton Museum, based on their 'Our Disappearing Nature' study.
St Mary's Parish Church, Astbury
The church, described by Nikolaus Pevsner as one of the 'most exciting' churches in Cheshire, will be open for self-guided tours every day of the festival.
Highlights include the ringing chamber in the bell tower, which will be open exclusively on Saturday, September 13.
Then, on Sunday September 14, there is a come and sing evensong at 6.30pm, with a rehearsal from 2pm to 5pm.
Little Moreton Hall
This National Trust site will be open to all free of charge this Saturday, September 13.
Visitors will be able to take a step back in time inside this 'higgledy-piggledy' house and discover what everyday Tudor life tells us about the way we live today.
Meanwhile, children can search the grounds for the 'Wandering Wolves' who have escaped the Moreton Family Crest.

Biddulph Grange
Another National Trust site, Biddulph Grange will also be free of charge, from September 18 to 20.
The gates at the bottom of Lime Avenue will be opened so you can follow in the footsteps of the garden's creator, James Bateman.
Furthermore, the gates between the garden and the neighbouring local park will also be opened, joining the two areas for the first time in decades.
Inside the grounds you will find Britain's largest stone garden urn, the Geological Gallery, Britain's oldest stumpery and the centrepiece Chinese garden.
St Lawrence's Biddulph
Right next door to Biddulph Grange, St Lawrence's will be hosting a family fun day on Saturday, September 20.
There will be all kinds of games and activities as well as inflatables.
There will also be various tours going on throughout the day around the church.
St Lawrence's Rushton Spencer
If you can't wait until then, head over to St Lawrence's Church in Rushton Spencer for their fun day on Saturday, September 13.
Suitable for all ages, there will be a wide range of free events and activities from 11am to 4pm.
Highlights include an inflatable slide, pony rides, alpacas, vintage tractors, and a performance from Over Alderley Brass Band.
