In a snowy seasonal picture, over 200 stars surround the Rotary-Congleton Tree of Light.

The tree, located in the Community Garden in Lawton Street, helped local people remember their loved ones over the Christmas period.

Sales of stars raised over £1,000 for Rotarians to donate in the coming year supporting local good causes.

The Tree of Light, now in its second year, is now a growing Christmas tree dedicated to the memory of Rotarian Alan Parton, who brought the idea of the tree to Congleton in 2019.

The purchase and location of the tree was made possible with generous support from Congleton Town Council and The William Dean Trust.

Rod Goodier, who organised the event for Congleton Rotary Club, said that the tree is now established as part of the Congleton Christmas scene.

Despite the problems of the pandemic, with sales of stars being restricted by closures of local shops and with not being able to publicise a switch-on event in the town centre, more stars had been sold this year.

Mr Goodier "hoped" that as we returned to a more "normal way of life in 2021", the tree would create an annual "focal point for townspeople to remember their loved ones".
