Congleton has better broadband than neighbouring towns, according to new government data.

Alsager, Sandbach, Middlewich, and Holmes Chapel all have a slower download speed than Congleton, when measured in megabites downloaded per second.

However, it is not all good news, as Congleton, and the whole Congleton parliamentary constituency which includes the aforementioned towns, all have internet speeds below the national average.

Congleton Town has an average download speed (mbps) of 64.7,

Congleton constituency performs below the national average.

Despite being better than nearby towns, this significantly lags below the UK average of 86.5 megabytes per second.

Congleton West Heath had the best of the wards Congleton Nub News covers, but still below the national average. They recorded 75.8 mbps.

Given the super rural nature of the ward, you'd expect Scholar Green, Rode Heath & Breton to have sluggish download speeds. They scored 58.8 mbps, but can take comfort in knowing that more urban places like Sandbach and Holmes Chapel have speeds that are even slower.

Buglawton fared better than Congleton Town, but not as good as Congleton West Heath. Buglawton bagged a score of 69.7 mbps average download speed.

The Congleton parliamentary constituency average of 59.1 pales in comparison to the neighbouring constituency of Macclesfield. It is there where they enjoy internet download speeds of 88 megabytes per second.

Even rural areas like Brereton did better than some other nearby towns.

Megabytes per second is regarded as the most commonly known way to check how fast somebody can get online.

The data released by the government also shows other ways to check how good an internet connection is in Congleton or elsewhere, and can be viewed here.
