An inspiring Congleton man has shared his story of regaining fitness after complex heart surgery.

Peter had an aortic valve replacement and also underwent heart bypass surgery. As part of his rehabilitation, he signed to some NHS Cardiac Rehabilitation sessions at Congleton Leisure Centre.

The sessions were supervised by Everybody Leisure, with specialist health adviser Victoria Clarke.

Since starting rehabilitation, Peter has been attending the gym two to three times each week, and has also been walking regularly.

Now feeling much more confident about his fitness, Peter said: "Following major surgery, I was invited to attend the rehab course to improve my recovery. Before surgery I was limited to small walks and no strenuous exercise.

"I followed the good instructors and assistance from the Everybody team, I am now doing three gym sessions per week and walking twice a week in the Derbyshire countryside.

"The rehabilitation course at Congleton Leisure Centre has been a great help in reaching my previous fitness levels. The Everybody Healthy team have been great in their support and assistance in attaining my goals and aiding my recovery."

Victoria, who has been supervising the sessions, said: "Peter has done amazingly well during the 12 week programme. I have seen his confidence and fitness improve significantly since starting.

"He has worked so hard and has been dedicated to coming to the gym on a weekly basis and attending his reviews. He is now back to his previous fitness levels prior to surgery. Well done, Peter."
