Residents have until midnight to give their views on plans that will see three Congleton roads form part of the borough's proposals to introduce five new permanent active travel projects across Cheshire East towns in the summer.

Cheshire East Council is seeking people's views on a second phase of 'active travel' schemes to "boost cycling and walking" – following the award of additional government funding.

The proposals include design options for Antrobus Street, West Street and Mill Street, Congleton.

A document from Cheshire East circulated to Congleton residents, said: "The proposal would reduce speed limits and improve crossing points on the one-way sections of West Street, Antrobus Street and Mill Street."

Two options for West Street between Antrobus Street and Astbury Street/Banks are proposed:

Option one: one-way system on West Street in an easterly direction for vehicles, westerly direction converted to a cycle lane.

The westbound bus stop would be removed, and services rerouted. On-street parking would be retained.

Option two: two-way traffic maintained with traffic calming measures introduced in West Street.

The westbound bus stop would remain, and routes would be unaffected. On-street parking would be retained.

The consultation runs until 11:59pm on 3 March 2021. To find out more and have your say click here.
