A male swan who was rescued from Astbury Mere after a fishing hook left him with a "painful wound" is still receiving treatment from the RSCPA.

RSPCA officers discovered that the swan wasn't using one of his legs due to the injury sustained by the piece of fishing equipment.

After a successful boat rescue by officers on Tuesday, the male swan (cob) was taken to Stapeley Grange for treatment.

An RSPCA spokesperson provided an update on the swan's condition today (Friday).

The spokesperson said: "The swan is still in our care receiving treatment. Unfortunately he's unable to stand at the moment so the team will be continuing his medication and monitoring him for the time being."
