Remembrance Sunday will be market by Congleton residents and town officials at a ceremony this weekend.

Every year, Remembrance Sunday is the closest Sunday to 11 November, and marks the anniversary of the armistice signed by the Allies of World War I and Germany at Compiègne, France, at 5:45 am.

This detailed the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front of World War I, which took effect at eleven in the morning - the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918 - effectively marking the end of World War I.

This anniversary is marked across the country each year, and Congleton will be hosting a parade to commemorate those lost in World War I.

The parade will take place on Sunday 12 November from 10.30am, and will commence from West Street Car Park at 10.30am.

All are welcome, and poppies are encouraged, representing those lost and the poppies that grew n the war-torn fields of France.

Lest we Forget.
