A councillor has sought assurances from PCC Dan Price that being selected as a candidate for the Cheshire & Warrington mayoralty will not impact his work as police commissioner.

Mr Price, who has been Cheshire's police and crime commissioner since May 2024, has been selected to stand as Labour's candidate for mayor of the new combined authority.

The mayoral election is due to take place in May next year.

At the recent meeting of Cheshire's police and crime panel, Cllr David Jefferay (CEC, Ind) congratulated Mr Price on being selected but asked: "How will that impact your work as PCC?

"Many of us know how much work is involved with an election campaign… So I'm just wondering how that will impact on your work?"

Mr Price replied: "My office has put in place the right checks and balances on the work that I do and my priority is police and crime commissioner, and I will continue to do that the remainder of this term.

"And the election that's forthcoming is secondary to my thoughts today, I can assure you."

Will the other candidates also be asked about juggling work and campaign? I believe the man for the Conservatives doesn't have this problem since he left the company he was finance officer for when it was taken over (rescued?) by their lenders
