A new defibrillator has come to Congleton.

The new piece of life-saving kit can be found on Manchester Road, at Congleton Ambulance station.

The kit has been installed in memory of a late first-responder.

A Congleton Partnership spokesperson revealed how the project came to be.

"This was a joint project between Congleton Lions Club and Congleton Partnership, supported by NWAS who helped with the installation," they said.

"The defibrillator has been dedicated to the memory of Clive Heather, a former NWAS paramedic and much-loved family man. It was wonderful that Ruth (wife) and members of Clive's family could join us at the official opening.

"Thanks to Margaret Gartside, Congleton's Town Mayor for joining us.

"The defibrillator was first registered on 12th May and was called into service on 31st May. So it is already saving lives!"

Clive Heather was a Congleton 73-year-old who passed away last December, at Macclesfield District General Hospital.

This will have all-day access, being an outdoor defibrillator station.

There are now 20 defibrillators with 24 hour access in Congleton

There are a further 33 defibrillators which are only open during business hours, please click here for the full list around Congleton

According to the National Institute for Health Care and Research, the UK survival rate for cardiac arrest is around 8%, but bystander assistance through cardiopulmonary resuscitation and attaching a defibrillator increased it to 32%.

Survival rates were even higher for people who had a rhythm that could be treated by a shock from the defibrillator, at 53%.

Congleton Ambulance Station is located on CW12 1NP.
