Nature spreads its wings at the Lovell Quinta Arboretum
We all need to unwind every now and then and walking in woodland has been proven to be an excellent way of boosting your mental and physical health.
Spending time in a natural environment can help to decrease stress, anxiety and fatigue and help you to feel calmer and more relaxed.
The 28-acre Lovell Quinta Arboretum in Swettenham is increasing its wellbeing programme as a way of helping more people to connect with the healing qualities of nature.
Outdoor tai chi sessions are already underway at the Arboretum on Wednesday evenings and are proving very popular.
New to the agenda are forest bathing sessions and bird watching experiences, designed to help you engage with the outdoors and learn more about nature.
The forest bathing will be led by nature connection practitioner Amanda Bailey of Let's Step In. "Forest bathing originated in Japan, where it's called 'Shinrin-Yoku'", she explains.
"It's a guided mindful walk which focusses on how to slow down, become present and immerse yourself in nature.
"Modern life can be frantic and stressful, and forest bathing helps to realign you to a simpler, rhythm, that of nature itself. It's very relaxing and proven to support your mental and physical wellbeing."
Nature lovers can also benefit from bird watching experiences led by local birder Peter Brierley.
Peter will be leading a small group through the arboretum with emphasis on bird species identification, the importance of recognising birdsong and habitat.
"The Arboretum is a special place to spend a quiet couple of hours and it is amazing with practice just how many species can be seen over the year as your observational skills improve," says Peter.
"Please bring binoculars with you if at all possible and sturdy shoes/boots in case conditions are not dry!"
The first bird watching experience is on Saturday 3 July from 10am to 12pm, £5/person for Tatton Garden Society members and £7.50 for non/members, free for children under 12.
The first introduction to Forest Bathing session will take place on Sunday 4 July from 10am to 12pm. Price £12/person for Tatton Garden Society members, £14.50/person for non-members.
Spaces for all events are limited, so book quickly by emailing [email protected] or send a message via Facebook.
