A Congleton community building has been purchased by new owners.

The Trustees of Mossley Old School Community Centre recently celebrated becoming proud owners of the Victorian building on Leek Road.

The Trust acquired the original Mossley Primary School in 1999 after taking over the lease that 1st Mossley Scout Group had with the building owners, the Diocese of Chester.

The Diocese offered to sell the building to the Trust in 2006 and the Trust managed to obtain a 15 year mortgage from Charity Bank in order to complete the purchase.

The final payment was made in November 2021, making them official owners at the time you are reading this Congleton Nub News article.

The building is run and maintained by volunteer trustees for the benefit of the community and is home to 1st Mossley Scout Group, Mossley Breakfast and After School Club (MASK), Louise Carter School of Dance, as well as Keep Fit, Pilates, Karate and various U3A classes.

The trustees were very pleased that Jean Vale, one of the original trustees, and her husband George, were in attendance to raise a glass to celebrate the success of the project.

Jean did much of the preliminary work to secure the building and George worked alongside her on the main grant application to WREN.

Users benefit from two large halls, kitchen, meeting room and an enclosed outdoor space all with great accessibility.

It can be hired by anyone for activities such as classes, training sessions and parties.

Any individuals or groups from Congleton or further afar interested in hiring the venue can contact the Centre Manager on [email protected] or visit the Mossley Old School Facebook page for more details.
