Man who attacked teenager with a chair outside Congleton pub avoids jail

A Congleton man who attacked a teenager with a chair has avoided jail.
Scott Hudson has been handed a 32-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.
At the sentencing hearing on Wednesday, August 6, prosecutor Chloe Durose explained that Hudson had been out drinking with his friends in Congleton on May 26, 2024.
She says Hudson, 28, approached the 18-year-old victim outside the Olde Kings Arms pub, swinging a chair at his face.
A fight ensued, which had to be broken up by others.
The incident left the victim with a black eye, a gash behind his ear and a fractured nose.
Moreover, it has had a 'real impact' on his social life, with his parents insisting he gets taxis home or is collected by them, causing him 'embarrassment'.

Defending, Trevor Feehily said the incident came about following an earlier altercation between the friends of Hudson and the victim.
Both parties were made to leave the Olde Kings Arms, returning later in the day once things had 'calmed down'.
However, Mr Feehily says there was 'more provocation and insults thrown'.
He added: "At this point, his self-control really deserts him and his frustrations boil over.
"This is a one-off incident".
Mr Feehily continued, explaining that since this incident Hudson has cut his alcohol intake 'right down'.
Baring this in mind, as well as Hudson's lack of any previous convictions, the bench at Crewe Magistrates Court opted to suspend his 32-week sentence.
They said: "We do believe you are a man of good character.
"Provided you stay out of trouble and don't commit any further offences, then at the end of 12 months this sentence is served."
On top of his suspended sentence, Hudson, of Kingfisher Close in Congleton, has been banned from entering the Olde Kings Arms for the next 12 months.
He will also have to pay £1,000 in compensation, £400 in costs and a £154 surcharge
