Local charities and community groups encouraged to apply for funding boost

Local community groups, charities and not-for-profit organisations are being encouraged to apply for funding from Congleton Town Council.
Each year, the council awards around £15,000 in grants to support projects and activities that benefit Congleton residents.
Applications received by Monday, October 26, will be considered at the Finance and Policy Committee meeting on Thursday, November 5, when the next grants will be awarded.
One local group to benefit from funding is Congleton Chess Club, which has received support to help establish regular, inclusive activities.
The club recently celebrated its first birthday and is now preparing to launch an under-16 section.
Founder Maurice Scholes said: "What a year!
"We've settled into our new home at Orso Lounge and received over £500 in financial support from Congleton Town Council and the English Chess Federation.
"We've played our first friendly match, joined a new league and continued supporting chess activities at a local primary school.
"We're grateful for the support we've received and are looking forward to launching our under-16 section."
Congleton Town Mayor, councillor Suzy Firkin, added: "Community groups and charities play an important role in making Congleton a great place to live.
"Our grants can help local organisations develop their activities, reach more people and make a positive difference to residents' lives.
"I would encourage any eligible group with a project or idea that benefits our community to find out more and apply."
Congleton Town Council welcomes applications from Congleton-based charities, community and voluntary groups, not-for-profit community businesses, and individuals seeking support for projects or events that benefit the wider community.
Organisations based outside Congleton may also apply where their project benefits Congleton residents.
All applicants must complete a Financial Assistance Application Form.
