Congleton Town Council is getting ready for the spooky season with a Haunted Halloween Extravaganza, helping parents keep their little monsters entertained over the October half term.

There will be free fiendish activities in Congleton Town Hall and town centre.

Little ones can put on their scariest outfit and join in some frighteningly good fun at the gothic town hall.

The new 'Witchy Wednesday' event takes place on Wednesday, 25 October from 11am – 2pm.

Rachel McCarthy, Congleton Town Council's Town Centre and Events Officer said: "We are delighted to be hosting this spook-tacular free entry event for families.

There is no need to book, just turn up. We have a range of activities planned, which will include a fancy-dress competition, eerie arts and crafts, scary cake decorating and spooky music.

"To ensure children look the part, we will have a face painter to give them a terrifying transformation!

"A small donation is requested with all proceeds going to Pancreatic Cancer UK.

"Carve your own spine-chilling pumpkin masterpiece (£1 per child ) on a first come, first served basis. A huge thank you to Tesco, Barn Road for sponsoring the pumpkins.

"Scrumptious treats and Halloween food party food will be available to purchase on the day."

The town council is offering families an extra treat with a free Haunted Halloween Trail.

Supported by 40 town centre shops and businesses, the trail runs from 21-31 October.

Rachel explains: "Grab your broomsticks, and come along for a frighteningly good time!

"Pick up a leaflet from the Congleton Information Centre, inside the town hall, or download (via this link) and print your own copy at home.

"Little ghosts and ghouls can then creep around the town centre looking for Pumpkin Posters in shop windows, simply write down the letters which will spell out a ghoulish phrase.

"Once completed, hand your form back into the Information Centre to claim your Halloween treat. Look out for scary skulls on some of the posters, these shops have devilish delights inside!"
