A house fire in Congleton this morning is thought to have been caused by candles on a chimenea.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a fire on High Lowe Avenue, Congleton, before 7am this morning.

The fire was extinguished prior to firefighters arriving at the scene, but a crew from Congleton used a hose reel to damp down hot spots.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "The fire is believed to have been caused by candles on the chimenea.

"Crews monitored the area with a thermal imaging camera."

Firefighters were in attendance for approximately 20 minutes.
