This Bank Holiday weekend, MP Fiona Bruce attended a Good Friday Service in Congleton.

The Conservative MP for Congleton took part in the service, doing a reading with Congleton's Mayor, Rob Moreton.

Speaking after the service, Fiona said: "It was a privilege to do a reading, alongside the Town Mayor Cllr Rob Moreton, at the Congleton Town Good Friday Service and to see more people than ever gathering for this important event.

"It was a particular pleasure to see how many of the Congleton churches and Church Leaders joined together including contributions from Rev Ian Enticott, Chairman of Churches Together in Congleton, Father Francis of St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Stephen Hodgkinson of New Life Church, Tony Frost of Congleton Street Pastors and a talk from the Bishop Sam Corley of Stockport.

"It was also a pleasure to do the reading a the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Easter service this year in my role as the Prime Minister Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief and to hear the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in his Easter message highlight concerns about persecuted Christians across the world. "

The Easter message can be viewed here: The Prime Minister's Easter message 2024 - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).

In addition to attending the recent service, Ms Bruce read messages about the 'meaning of Easter' from her constituents at a recent debate in Parliament.

Ms Bruce added: It was also very moving to read the several profound contributions as to the meaning of Easter in a recent Parliamentary debate – held at exactly the same time that I was hosting a gathering in the Foreign Office to thank people across the UK who are actively involved in organisations supporting those persecuted for their faith across the world such as Release International, Open Doors, Christian Solidarity Worldwide and Aid to the Church in Need."
