Fifteen vehicles were clocked speeding on a Congleton road on Saturday afternoon.

Congleton Beat Team, armed with a hand-held speed gun, were on Newcastle Road (30 mph speed limit) and carried out a high visibility traffic operation, which included driver and vehicle checks in addition to speeding.

A Cheshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "This afternoon 12:00 - 14:00, Congleton Beat Team have been on the A34 Newcastle Road, Congleton.

"Six vehicles stop checked, four drivers were not wearing seatbelts and 15 vehicles were caught exceeding the 30mph speed limit."

Congleton Police Officers are currently carrying out a six week Road Safety operation #OpAssembles.

Speed checks will be commenced daily in hotspots all around Congleton and the surrounding areas. This is in response to concerns residents have about speeding.
