A new 80-bedroom care home in Congleton has submitted plans to provide residents with pub and café bistro facilities.

Britannia Healthcare Limited's plans for a care home at the former Vale Mill site, on Priesty Fields, Congleton, was approved in April 2018.

The modern, purpose-built care home will accommodate 80 residents in spacious bedrooms, with en-suite facilities that are specifically tailored to suit the needs of seniors requiring continuous care.

Nub News previously reported that the new care home was expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2021.

Britannia Healthcare has now secured an end user and operator for the care home building and following discussions / negotiations with this company, it become apparent that for "operational reasons" some internal and external changes needed to be made to the originally approved design.

The changes submitted to Cheshire East Council include three bedrooms being removed from the lower ground floor and replaced with pub and café bistro facilities.

Britannia Healthcare highlighted that the facilities would only be available to the care home residents and their visitors and not to members of the general public.

Speaking about the pub and café bistro facilities in a cover letter submitted to Cheshire East, Britannia Healthcare said: "They [the facilities] will provide the occupants of the care home with some pleasant social type facilities to experience, enjoy and share with their visitors similar to when they previously lived independently."

The three bedrooms have been re-located to alternative locations within the care home building.

The application was discussed at last Thursday's Congleton Town Council planning meeting.

Cllr Kay Wesley supported the application "wholeheartedly" because she felt it would "enhance the lives" of the care home's residents.

Congleton Town Council wholeheartedly supported the additional facilities being provided.

The last date for submitting comments on the application which can be viewed here is 4 February.

Cheshire East has set 17 February as the decision target date for the plans.
