A rapist has been sentenced to nearly a decade behind bars.
Joseph Alfasi appeared at Chester Crown Court on Tuesday, October 13, where he was sentenced to eight years and six months in prison.
It comes after the 23-year-old of Ginkgo Grove, Somerford, had previously been found guilty of three counts of rape, and one count of assault by penetration.
He was found not guilty of one count of assault by penetration.
Detective Constable Kris Aston said: "Firstly, I would like to acknowledge the immense strength and courage the victim has shown throughout this case.
"Understandably, much of her life over recent years has been overshadowed by this lengthy and complex investigation.
"She then had to relive her trauma during the trial, and it is thanks to her bravery and determination that a dangerous predator, who poses a significant threat to women, has been held responsible for his horrific actions.
"I hope this result allows the victim to move forward with her life and provides her with some form of closure. I also hope her courage gives other victims the confidence to come forward and report any offences against them.
"Finally, I hope this custodial sentence gives Alfasi time to reflect on the devastating impact of his actions and the lasting harm he has caused."
The court heard how Alfasi raped a girl at his home in March 2023.
During his interview, he denied any wrongdoing but was unable to account for the presence of his DNA on the victim and was subsequently charged with the offences.
The victim in this case has given permission to share a short extract from a letter that she wrote to DC Aston following the conclusion of the case.
She wrote: "I am so grateful for your support and optimism. You have been a huge comfort to both me and my family.
"I know how rare it is to get an outcome as good as this and it means more to me than I can put into words. Thank you for answering all late texts and endless questions.
"Most of all, thank you for helping me speak my truth and feel seen."
