A Congleton town councillor's community karaoke lockdown finished with a bang this weekend.

The final instalment of Cllr Rob Moreton's lockdown karaoke on Saturday night proved to be yet another rocking success.

Since the lockdown was put in place in March, Cllr Moreton and his wife Helen have been entertaining the town with their karaoke performances on the Congleton News And Views Facebook group and more importantly getting the town to join in.

Cllr Moreton said: "I thought it was important that whilst everyone was in lockdown, they still felt a part of the community.

"Whilst we were protecting our physical health from the virus, I thought holding a town karaoke competition on the Congleton News And Views Facebook group, would go some way to keeping peoples spirits up."

The weekly event has been an amazing success, with well over two thousand votes cast over the two months of performances.

Along the way it has had some stellar performances and has also aided with mental health.

One of the stars of the final week (which coincided with mental health week) was Disco Dave, aka David Porter, a well known Congleton resident who ran a successful taxi business for some years, before suffering mental health issues.

Dave said: "I had to get my courage up to perform, but with the support of the town I managed it. It's done wonders for my confidence and mental health."

When asked if the karaoke competition would be returning, the admin and creator of the group Sharon Neild responded: "You'll have to join the group and we'll keep you posted."
