Several garden centres and nurseries across the country are set to reopen their doors to the public today.

Here is a round up of what's currently happening with garden centres and nurseries in Congleton and its surrounding area.

Astbury Meadow Garden Centre, Newcastle Road, Congleton

Following current government guidance, the garden centre reopened from 9am today (Wednesday), but their restaurant remains closed until further notice.

To make sure they're operating safely, they're working in line with government guidance and to ensure they are protecting customers, they have implemented the following changes.

  • For the health and wellbeing of all individuals, a 2-metre distance must be maintained while shopping and waiting in line
  • They're restricting the number of customers entering the garden centre (no more than two people per household). Customers must queue outside, observing the social distancing measures, until advised to enter
  • Do not enter the store if you have a fever, cough or flu like symptoms or health concerns relating to Covid-19
  • All customers must use a trolley whilst within the store. Trolley handles will be cleaned by the garden centres team following each use
  • Distancing measures are now in place at the checkout. Payment is being taken by card only.

They posted on social media: "Thank you for your support and please continue to stay safe."

Congleton Garden Centre, Moss Road, Congleton.

Congleton Garden Centre has not reopened their doors for public access just yet, but instead has been trialling the idea of offering customers the opportunity to click and collect orders placed via their web shop on a following day basis whilst continuing the contactless delivery service for those who are shielding or cannot leave their home currently.

This service isn't live yet, but after a positive response from the community, the family run business is hoping to implement the service for the beginning of next week.

They posted on social media: "Thank you again for everyone's patience and understanding. From our family to yours, please keep safe and well."

DJM Nurseries, Newcastle Road, Congleton

They opened their gates to the public from 10am today (Wednesday) and are open until 4pm whilst taking the governments guidelines "very seriously".

Therefore, only two customers at a time and DJM Nurseries will not allow anybody to wait on the road as they feel it could "become very dangerous very fast".

Whilst in the nursery everybody must keep a two-metre distance and contactless card payment will be available.

As of today (Wednesday), Smithy Farm Nurseries are now open from 9am to 5pm Mondays to Saturdays and then Sundays 10am to 4pm.

Social distancing measures have been put in place, which includes installing a Perspex panel by the till and the shop being spaced out accordingly with tape.

A set number of 10 customers will be allowed in the nursery at one time. They posted on social media: "We would ask that our customers are considerate of the rules so that we can stay open.

"Things will be strange and different for both ourselves and our customers. We ask that you please bear with us over the next few weeks, as I'm sure we will have to adapt to the times.
