People in Congleton who for a variety of reasons may be struggling to cook a good hearty meal for themselves may be able to receive a meal once a week to their door, thanks to an extended offer from Congleton's Big Heart Lunch Club.

The subsidised club was set up in Spring 2020 to provide a meal for those who would normally attend the Congleton luncheon clubs run out of the United Reformed Church and St John's Community Centre in Buglawton.

Initially meals were provided free of charge thanks to the generosity of local catering company Vanilla in Allseasons and then subsidised by Congleton Town Council using funding that would usually support the luncheon clubs.

Since late June the meals have prepared by the Old Saw Mill Community Café in Back River Street and delivered by Congleton Town Council on a Friday.

There is a meat or vegetarian options plus a dessert. The meals arrived chilled ready to be heated up in the microwave or oven.

Now, thanks to some additional funding by Congleton Inclosure Trust and Cheshire East Community Fund the Big Heart Lunch Club is confident that it can meet the needs of more people who would benefit from a regular proper dinner and pudding.

Peter Aston, from the Old Saw Mill said: "We want to reach out and help more people in Congleton who would benefit most from a good meal made from local produce.

"Thanks to the additional funding we believe that we can manage 100 meals a week, rather than the 42 that we are currently delivering.

"We also have some scope to offer a free service to those who are unable to pay the subsidised £4 cost."

Anyone interested in applying or finding out more about the service for should call Congleton Town Council on 01260 270350 ext 1.

This service is limited to people living in Congleton and will require a conversation with the person who will be receiving the meal.
