Congleton Mayor shares message of hope and success ahead of Christmas

Exclusive to Congleton Nub News, Congleton's Mayor, Rob Moreton, has shared his memories of a successful year ahead of Christmas and the New Year.

Cllr Rob Moreton was elected as Town Mayor until May 2024.

His civic team comprises his wife Helen, Mayoress, Steve Hodgkinson, New Life Church as his Chaplain and Mayor's Cadet, Amelia Downing from the Congleton West Rangers. Cllr Kay Wesley is serving as Deputy Mayor, joined by her Consort, Mike Wesley.

The Mayor and his team have marked a successful year in Congleton, and have taken the time to wish Congleton residents a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Congleton Town Council, headed up by Cllr Moreton, said: "This year has been an exciting one for Congleton, full of events and community activities.

"It has been a huge honour and privilege for Town Mayor, Cllr Rob Moreton to attend over 100 events and engagements meeting Congleton people who are just the best at supporting local events."

Voters flocked to the polls to elect 22 councillors for Congleton.

Thousands enjoyed a royally good day in Congleton Park for King Charles III Coronation (despite the rain)!

The Food and Drink Festival and Jazz and Blues packed out the town.

Congleton Leisure Centre unveiled its brand-new refurbished facility.

Congleton Pride were proud of their first Pride Parade.

In Bloom scooped even more Gold Medals for its beautiful blooms, and the new Market Quarter opened its vibrant doors.

Congleton united in Remembrance and families enjoyed the free festive fun at the lights switch-on.

The mayor already has a busy diary for 2024, including the town mayor's charity ball on 26 April 2024.

The team added: "There's going to be even more to see and do in Congleton in 2024.

"Congleton Town Hall presents an evening of Clairvoyance with Steven Holbrook on 27 February. UK Bjorn, a tribute to Abba will take to the stage on 1 March and 'Rule the Word' will be back for good on 1 November. The Congleton Market Quarter will host an event on the last Friday of the month, an independent street market every Saturday and special deals to start your weekend early. The Makers Market will come to town on the last Saturday of the month and Congleton Museum has some great events planned to educate and entertain.

"We will also be celebrating 100 years of the War Memorial Hospital, 80 years since the D-Day landings and 50 years of the Congleton Information Centre."

  • October 30, Witchy Wednesday in the Town Hall 
  • November 10, Remembrance Sunday 
  • November 29, Christmas Lights Switch-On
