Congleton Library is championing young photographers over the festive period.

The Market Square public building will show off the best snaps from photographers under the age of 18 from today.

The Congleton Library exhibition comprises entries from the Rotary-Congleton Young Photographer Competition.

The exhibition runs until Saturday, January 8.

There are 90 entries featuring the theme "The Colours of Nature" in three age categories.

The winners are:

7 – 10 Age Group John Thorley

11 – 13 Age Group Lily Clowes

14 – 17 Age Group Isabel Amy Lyons

The judges were Congleton photographer, Eileen Jackson, Congleton Camera Club administrator Chris Hunt and Rotary Youth Events Leader, Eric Westwood.

The judges praised the universally high standard of all the entries.

Selecting the winners proved difficult The images were sent by email and were judged on-screen.

Prints were made of each photo submitted for the exhibition.

Because there were so many entries in the 7-10 Age Group, the judges commended the work of Jessica March, Iona Wagg, Freya Brown and Lexi Vickers.

The stand-out winner in the category was John Thorley. His image of a robin 'captured the moment' and the judges said ...'Difficult to photograph a wild bird and produce an image with widely balanced, natural colours.'

Lily Clowes produced a 'really very good' photograph of a mandarin duck.

Isabel Amy-Lyons' winning entry was a bee captured collecting pollen from a flower. Don't miss out on Congleton's latest and greatest news.
