Congleton gears up to welcome new town mayor

As part of a long tradition of mayors in Congleton, a special mayor making ceremony will be held on Thursday 16 May at 7pm in the Town Hall - officially welcoming the new town mayor.
Town councillors will elect one of their fellow councillors to assume the prestigious role for the 2024-25 civic year. Members of the public are invited to attend to observe the annual proceedings.
The service will see the current Town Mayor, Cllr Rob Moreton hand over the chain of office to his successor after a triumphant year in office.
Cllr Moreton said: "Congleton born and bred, it has been an absolute honour and privilege to serve as town mayor. It has been truly memorable and rewarding, I have met some fantastic people along the way, and I would like to thank the whole community for their support.
"It's true what they say, Congleton really is 'the little town with a big heart.'
"I extend my best wishes to my successor as they take up the best job in town."
As part of the formalities, the new town mayor will make their pledge and introduce their mayoral party. A new deputy town mayor will also be appointed for the civic year ahead.
The new town mayor will be welcomed with excitement and cheer at the town mayor's parade and civic service on Sunday 2 June 2024.
The parade will gather from 2pm at Antrobus Street Car Park, to set off at 2.15pm to arrive at the Town Hall for a 2.30pm service, expected to finish by 4pm.
All local schools, clubs, businesses, groups, charities and residents are invited to take part.
The special occasion will be more be more inclusive and a celebration of everyone in Congleton who supports the community and the town.
The town council would like to welcome everyone who lives and works in the community to attend both civic events. Booking is not necessary, just turn up on the day and enjoy the proceedings.
