Firefighters were called to a Congleton property after being notified of smoke coming from a washing machine.

At around 1.50pm today (6th May) firefighters were called to Poplar Close, Congleton.

Two fire engines attended, one from Congleton and one from Holmes Chapel.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "On arrival the crew discovered that it was a small amount of smoke that was confined to the kitchen.

"Firefighters made the washing machine safe and were in attendance for nearly half-an-hour.

"The smoke is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault in the washing machine."
