A crowdfunding appeal has been launched for a Congleton dog who has been diagnosed with cancer.

Five-year-old Border Collie Loki was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer in July.

He is currently is undergoing treatment to help him recover.

Loki's owners have maxed out their insurance policy of £7,500 and owe a further £2,000 for the remainder of his treatment.

The Congleton dog lives in West Heath and lives with owner Lindsay Holmes (29).

Lindsay said: "He is my absolute world and is honestly the nicest dog I've ever met and had the privilege of having as my fur baby.

"The idea of losing him is unbearable."

Loki's illness came on rapidly – he went from having no tumour to being diagnosed within three weeks, finding himself days away from passing away due to the aggressiveness of the tumours.

After some successful treatment, Loki went into remission until his owners found out the cancer had spread just four weeks later.

He is now four weeks into chemotherapy treatment to remove the cancer which has spread throughout his body.

Treatment for a dog with lymphoma is often very expensive – depending on the treatment path costs can reach thousands of pounds.

It can significantly extend a dog's survival time but response can vary and is impossible to predict because each case of lymphoma is different.

Despite his illness, Loki still manages to maintain a positive temperament.

Lindsay said: "He's maybe quiet for two days after treatment and short on energy but he always wants to play with his tennis ball or football.

"The rest of the days he is a typical Border Collie and full of energy.

"On really good days he joins me for a run up to the top of Bosley Cloud."

Lindsay and her husband David, 32, were married on Saturday (October 30).

They wed in a local ceremony, where Loki acted as ring bearer.

Their crowdfunding appeal has so far achieved half of its £2,000 goal.

Lindsay said: "Even just £1 would help us keep his treatment going and give him the best chance of beating it, or just even giving him another year of life because he so deserves it."

The crowdfunder was set up three weeks ago, but time is of the essence for help to save Loki's life.

42 people have donated as of October 31.
