A Congleton-based chippy has shown their support to the local community by offering a free meal to children who would normally receive a free lunch in school.

Parents can go to Mario's Fish Bar, located at West Heath Shopping Centre, between 3pm to 4pm and claim a free children's meal.

The national free school meals voucher scheme will be reinstated on Monday following public outcry over an inadequate replacement brought in by the Government.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has called for an investigation into the free school meals controversy that left families receiving as little as £5 worth of food in what was meant to be a £30 package lasting a school week.

The Government has outsourced the free school meals programme to a private catering firm called Chartwells.
