Staff at a Congleton care home pulled out all the stops to ensure a resident enjoyed his landmark 100th birthday, despite his family being unable to visit.

Preston Shaw celebrated his special day yesterday at Bradwell Court Residential Care Home with a fancy-dress party, a 100th birthday cake and messages from his family.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic and the government lockdown, Preston's family were unable to celebrate his milestone in person with him.

However, Preston's son Kevin Shaw spoke to his Dad on the phone and was able to give him a wave when he was walking past the care home on his daily walk.

Kevin, who is 68-years-old and lives in Buglawton, couldn't praise the staff at Bradwell Court enough for their role in helping his Dad feel at home.

Kevin told Nub News: "The staff are amazing, they've set up a Skype system and we can speak to each other whenever we want, we have also been FaceTiming him.

"My Dad has been in the home since November 2018 and I've got nothing but praise and positivity for how welcome the staff make you feel. Whenever we visit, they let us stay for dinner, they are brilliant."

Staff at the care home dressed up in fancy dress and read cards to Preston from his loved ones. He was also treated to a birthday cake which was made specially by the home's cook.

Kevin concluded: "They are only a small care home, but they make every resident feel like they're part of the family.

"My Dads grandchildren and great grandchildren were delighted to see how happy he looked on his big day."
