Congleton's culture and environment are to be given a financial boost.

Applications for the Margaret Williamson Fund are now open, offering local groups and organisations the chance to submit their case for some additional funding.

Established in memory of 'Congleton's First Lady', Margaret Williamson, the fund supports environmental, educational, and cultural projects that benefit the community.

Cathy Dean, Congleton Partnership Officer, said: "Margaret was instrumental in founding the Congleton Partnership, she was a passionate advocate for Congleton's cultural and environmental well-being.

"This fund continues her legacy by supporting projects that make a real difference in the community.

"We look forward to seeing applications from organisations eager to contribute to Margaret's vision."

In 2024, funding was awarded to applicants such as Pride Congleton, Congleton Museum, Daven School and Trinity Amateur Operatic Society.

This year, around £1,400 is available for distribution to projects that align with the fund's objectives.

The trustees of the fund are particularly interested in projects that meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • · Provide opportunities for people to take part in musical, theatrical, literary, performing arts, dance, or other artistic activities
  • · Offer education and awareness of the natural environment, particularly among young people
  • · Conserve or improve the natural environment for the benefit of Congleton and District residents

To be eligible, projects and beneficiaries must be within the Congleton and District area, defined by the CW12 postcode or 01260 STD Code.

This year, the application process includes a new online application form, accessible at https://congletonpartnership.co.uk/project/margaret-williamson-memorial/.

For those who prefer a paper application form, requests can be made by contacting Cathy Dean at [email protected]

Applications are open until March 10, at which point they will be reviewed with funds being distributed in April.
