Congleton Town Council has urged anyone concerned about the removal of two telephone boxes to respond to a consultation from BT.

The telecoms giant which manages the nations network of telephone boxes proposes to remove those on Edinburgh Road and Crescent Road.

A consultation on the issue is set to close on Friday and those concerned about the removal of the telephone boxes can contact the town council to register their objection.

The box on Edinburgh Road was due to be discussed as a possible site for a defibrillator at the town council's Community and Environment Committee on the 30th July, but the paper was withdrawn as a more convenient site was been located.

Jackie McArthur, the town council's deputy chief officer, told Nub News: "It's about finding out if anyone still uses them. Most people would assume that people can keep in touch with a mobile phone or landline, but if some people rely on them we want to let BT know."

If you would like to register your approval or disapproval of the removal of either of the telephone boxes, you can do so by emailing the town council on [email protected] or call on 01260 270350 by Friday at lunchtime.
