TSB has confirmed that the banking giant's Congleton branch will close in October.

The bank announced its plan to shut the branch - along with 81 others - last November.

But this week TSB has written to customers to inform them that the High Street branch will close for good on October 20.

The letter states: "We've looked carefully at our Congleton branch and how it is used and we've taken the decision to close it.

"The way our customers bank with us has changed and continues to change.

"We want to make sure we meet the future needs of our customers, as well as having the right number of branches.

"So while we continue to invest in existing and new services and technology, this will mean closing some branches."

In the last two years, TSB has seen branch transactions drop by 17 percent as customers increasingly choose to bank online or by phone.

The letter goes on to say that the closest TSB branch will be in Biddulph - almost five miles away - and also suggests the Leek branch, a 10-mile drive from Congleton, as another option.

Customers will also be able to use any Post Office for day-to-day banking transactions.
