Anti-pesticide campaign to launch in Congleton this week

A campaign to remove pesticides from our town's plants and crops will launch in Congleton this week.

On Monday 23rd May 2022 from 6.30pm - 8pm, Congleton Climate Action Group will launch their latest environmentally positive campaign in the cent roof our town.

The one-and-a-half hour launch event will take place at The Lion and Swan Hotel on Swan Bank.

"Are you passionate about becoming pesticide free? Congleton Climate Action Group are proud to announce we will be leading a campaign to become Pesticide Free Congleton," said the Congleton good cause.

"Are you an individual, a company, a local Councillor?

"Do you want to help protect your family and friends from the harmful effects of pesticides, herbicides and biocide?

"Do you care about protecting the environment, wildlife and biodiversity?

"If so then join us at our next meeting on Monday 23 May 2022 which will be to discuss developing a strategy to meet our aim of making Congleton a pesticide free town.

"Please come along if you're interested in getting involved in this, in a big or small way, or would just like to learn a bit more!

"The meeting will be held in person, but we hope to also provide the option to attend virtually if you can't join us.

"On Monday 20th April we held a very succesful online Q&A meeting with Julia Shaw from Pesticide Free Cambridge.

"Julia told us of her journey in Pesticide Free and also answered many questions. The minutes of this meeting are available to view here."

A 2018 survey reported by Pesticide Action UK revealed there are at least 38 types of pesticides used across the UK. The majority of these being herbicides.

Pesticides have a variety of uses, such as killing weeds in urban spaces, or protecting food crops.
