A Congleton petrolhead was given the surprise of a lifetime on Tuesday morning when he scooped a top-of-the-range Mercedes plus £70,000 in cash thanks to dream car competition BOTB.

Jason Swift-Clowes, 50, from Congleton, was working from home when BOTB's Christian Williams video-called to tell him he was this week's Dream Car Competition winner and had scooped the Mercedes A45S AMG worth £51,000.

"You are kidding me," Jason said visibly shocked. "I can't believe this!"

The video game designer said he had been waiting for this day for ages after playing BOTB every week for the past three years.

"I'm absolutely car obsessed," Jason said. "I already know everything there is to know about this car and I've wanted it for such a long time."

This is the fourth time a BOTB winner has chosen the Mercedes A45S AMG this year.

Jason, who paid just £2 for his ticket to enter the competition, said he chose this car after vigorous research.

Jason said: "I don't care about brands necessarily, I care about the car performance.

"I read all the car magazines and reviews and I chose the Mercedes because it's just a brilliant car.

"It's got four-wheel drive, it's fast, it's safe but also it's practical for the family."

Jason is husband to Steph, 34, and father to Jack, 25, and Finley, 10.

But it was not just the Mercedes Jason was taking home, as Christian revealed there was a briefcase stuffed with £70,000 cash in the boot, too!

"That is going to make my wife a very happy lady," Jason laughed, "And me of course!"

Jason said the money would go towards house renovations and his family.

"We've just had our kitchen done, but the rest of the house needs to follow," he explained.

"I'm sure Steph already has a list as long as her arm of things to spend it on.

"Of course, some will go to my boys too and we're all planning on a family holiday next year!

"Thanks so much BOTB!"

BOTB hands over the keys to two stunning cars each week as well as a lifestyle prize. Other recent winners have bagged a quad bike, a holiday to Las Vegas and a Harley Davidson.

The company, listed on the stock market, was founded by William Hindmarch in 1999 and has given away more than £37m-worth of cars so far.

BOTB presenter Christian Williams, who surprises the BOTB winners each week, said: "Looks like the BOTB winners love Mercedes - this is the fourth time I've surprised a winner with one of these since the start of the year.

"They are fantastic cars though and I'm super happy for Jason. That plus the £70,000 in cash is an amazing prize. Massive congratulations again."
