Congleton Food Hub, which is located at the town hall and launched on Monday has made several deliveries throughout the area to key workers, the elderly, vulnerable and those that are self-isolating.

The food hub was organised by Shaun Radcliffe and Congleton Town Council.

Shaun and 15-year-old Callum Bloor delivered 15 boxes worth of snacks to staff at Macclesfield General Hospital today.

Mr Radcliffe told Nub News: "They were really appreciative, but these people are on the front line and they need that energy to keep them going.

"They are under so much stress, just showing that people appreciate what they are doing and what they are putting themselves through will hopefully give them that adrenaline boost to keep going."

Since Monday, Shaun and Callum have delivered snack boxes to all the care homes and schools across Congleton.

Deliveries were also carried out to those still working at West Heath Shopping Centre, Congleton Retail Park on Barn Road, the town centre shops offering delivery/takeaway and banks.

Snack packs were also successfully delivered to the emergency services.

Mr Radcliffe said: "Any key workers that need any items we will help them."

Shaun was full of praise for Callum, who has been an ever-present helper and was even willing to sacrifice cutting his birthday celebrations short yesterday to help those who needed it the most.

Mr Radcliffe added: "He did his homework yesterday on his birthday and then came and helped, he epitomises the community spirt of this town.

"He doesn't get enough credit for what he does for Congleton. He is an unbelievable young lad with a heart of gold."

Congleton Town Council have allowed Mr Radcliffe to use Congleton Partnership's van to deliver packages to residents.

Previously, Shaun was using his own car, but the larger vehicle has allowed him to be more productive without having to make as many journeys.

As well as sanitising all the bags that come into the food hub, whilst out delivering Shaun and Callum are ensuring that the products are put in another plastic bag and they are always wearing gloves.

The package is then placed at the door and the resident collects from there, leaving just the outer bag which can then be used for future deliveries.

After liaising with the town's Poundstretcher and Morrisons stores, Congleton Food Hub now have trolleys at both the retail premises where residents can also donate items.

Mr Radcliffe added: "We still need more items because the demand is going to continue. The main things that would be ideal are long-life milk, pasta, toiletries, soups, those everyday items that ensure people can make quick meals from."

Kerry Jones and her 14-year-old son Lucas helped Shaun at the food hub on Monday and Tuesday mornings. Lucas then assisted with the deliveries yesterday afternoon.

Miss Jones, who works part-time in retail is working for the rest of the week, but she told Nub News that Lucas would be helping Mr Radcliffe out again tomorrow and most probably Friday too.

Miss Jones added: "I saw what Shaun was doing on Facebook and how he was running around everywhere to help get people what they needed, so I was keen to assist where I could.

"I told Lucas and he was very keen to help too. He has been an absolute star; he just wants to help people and feel useful. Myself and our whole family are so very very proud of him."

Mr Radcliffe concluded: "If you can keep on donating then please do, thank you to those that have, we really appreciate the support.

"Whilst we are healthy, we will carry on helping for as long as we are able to."

The town hall will be open for food and essential item donations from 9am to 11am (Monday to Friday) for the foreseeable future.

Alongside other volunteers, Mr Radcliffe has also been using his afternoons to help Boots deliver vital prescriptions to residents within the community in his own car, once he has completed delivering food hampers.
