To mark LGBTQ History Month, Congleton Pride has invited the community to join them in a virtual quiz and social night.

February marks the celebration of LGBTQ History Month. The theme for this year is 'body, mind and spirit', which is especially significant in the time of a global pandemic.

As part of the month-long activities, Congleton Pride are hosting a Zoom quiz night on Wednesday, 24th February at 7.30pm.

The quiz will be hosted by Richard Walton, secretary and trustee of Congleton Pride.

Mr Walton told Nub News that the "family-friendly quiz" is open to everyone and presents a "great opportunity" for the community to have some "fun and enjoy themselves".

Congleton Town councillor, Kay Wesley, trustee of Congleton Pride, has invited her fellow councillors to attend the "pub" quiz that will consist of 60 questions, 10 of which will be about LGBTQ.

Cheshire East Council has shown their support to the LGBTQ community by flying the flag from their corporate buildings across the borough.

However, the social media post which announced the authority's support to the LGBTQ community was subjected to homophobic comments.

When people ask Mr Walton, why do people need a pride in event 2021? He says the recent derogatory comments "galvanises" his efforts to show why communities need pride events to change society.

Speaking about the homophobic comments, Mr Walton added: "Seeing nasty comments like that doubles my efforts of promoting the pride movement.

"People should not discriminate and put other people down."
