In line with its ambitions for the area and the anticipated investment that is earmarked for it, several large construction projects are currently being planned for Crewe in and around the Basford East area of the town.

WestonM6 is the latest to submit planning permission in the area after they initially revealed their plans last year. Alongside WestonM6, other developments include a mix of commercial and residential developments.

We've rounded up the current projects currently under consideration.

Developer Muse has submitted planning permission for the WestonM6 logistics and business park which is located next to Shavington bypass and David Wilson Way.

The project aims to create nearly 3,000 new jobs across the scheme with the planning permission submitted proposing three logistics and warehousing buildings. Alongside the 750,000 sq. ft. development, approval has also been sought for the development of public amenities including a walking trail and wildlife 'pocket park'.

Alan McBride, projects director at the developers of the site, Muse, said: "At WestonM6, we've worked hard to design a sustainable place that complements the existing neighbourhood being created, unlocks vast areas of greenery, promotes a healthy lifestyle, but importantly attracts significant inward investment and meets the demand for new jobs in the town.

The business park is aiming to generate an extra £3.4 million in business rates for the area.

Alongside that development is PLP Crewe which is almost complete. The large site which sits just off Jack Mills Way welcomed Likewize, who had originally been based on Weston Road, as its new tenant.

TK Maxx has been signed up as tenants for the second phase of the large development once it is finished, which would make it one of the largest lettings in the region.

Development director at PLP, Keith Wilson said at the time: "Developing such a fantastic building in such a prime and established location, we were always confident in securing an occupier quickly,"

"Even then, we were surprised by the sheer number of occupiers who expressed interest in the building during construction."

Cheshire East's local plan has highlighted the Basford East area for future development until at least 2030 and alongside the commercial developments, a large residential site is being developed with 440 homes due to be completed, alongside a primary school and other amenities to create a new local centre.

The area itself has been earmarked for 1,835 new homes and ancillary commercial developments within the local plan.

A further 650 new homes at nearby Crewe Hall and Weston Road has its planning application in review currently with no decision scheduled yet.

The propsed 650-home development with a new village centre, play areas and woodland areas (Cheshire East Planning).
