A local charity Foundation, launched shortly after a local teen passed away following a tragic car crash, is raising money this spring with a community-focused East egg raffle.
The Georgia Leigh Ogden Foundation was set up in memory of Georgia, who was killed in June 2020 at the age of 17 when the Suzuki Swift in which she was travelling as a passenger crashed into a HGV in Astbury, Cheshire.
Georgia's parents, Mandy and Mark, along with brother Josh and supportive members of the local community, have raised thousands since launching the foundation.
Now, they are continuing their tireless fundraising efforts, with the help and support of the local community and supportive volunteers at the foundation.
The team shared on social media: "Over the past couple of years with your help we’ve managed to raise thousands of pounds in Gee’s memory for local charities and individuals. We’d love to be able to repeat this again this year if we can by holding another Easter Egg Raffle.
"As Easter eggs have now arrived in the shops, we are appealing to any local businesses or individuals who would like to help by donating Easter eggs for our raffle. We know times are hard for many at present but no matter what the quantity we would be most grateful. Hopefully, we will then be able to offer some amazing prizes, as previous years!
"Should you wish to donate an egg or two or even three, please get in touch with us so we can arrange collection or we have a number of drop off points around the town."
Drop off points can be found at:
- Congleton Slimming World with Laura - Wellspring Church off Canal Road
- Larvin and Clegg Funeral Care - Congleton & Crewe - Antrobus Street
- Barre Sculpt Pilates - St Martin’s Court (off West Street)
- Make 'n' Doodle Do - Glebe Farm
- Congleton Oatcakes - Lawton Street
- Chronicle Series office - Market Square
- WAGS Hair Salon - Biddulph
- Congleton butters john bee
Donations must be made by 15 March, and the raffle will go ahead on 24 March 2024.
The team concluded: "Thank you so much for your on-going support."
The foundation is also calling for change in UK driving licensing, ad have asked local people to sign a petition in support.
The petition is calling for:
- A minimum learning period of 40hrs to help young drivers gain skills and experience on different roads under different conditions
- No carrying passengers 25 and under for the first year
- Restrictions on driving at night between midnight and 6am
- Mandatory hazard perception training
The Foundation's plea for support with this ongoing petition has been supported by Congleton Town Council, who said: "Let's show our strength in numbers for the future of all young drivers in our community and beyond."
The petition can be signed via the following link: Introduce a progressive licensing system for young drivers under the age of 25 - Petitions (parliament.uk).
It already has over 12,000 signatures. For more information on the petition and Gee’s Foundation, head to the Foundation Facebook page.
