Yesterday (Saturday 22nd August) saw the staging of Congleton Lawn Tennis Club's 2020 Doubles Events.

Both the Mens and Ladies doubles events took place on an afternoon where whilst the rain held off the players were forced to deal with some difficult windy conditions.

In the Mens Event two pairs stood out from the rest of the field and in a close final, a father and son partnership of Chris and James Garside beat the 2019 winners Kyle Mclellan and Ian Walker to take home the winners shield and the prize vouchers courtesy of sponsors Crewe Alexandra FC.

The ladies competition was played as a round robin event and had a number of pairs in close contention right up until the end.

Two pairs won all but one of their matches and in the end Kerry Hall and Louise Fenn took the honours by the narrowest margin of just one game on count-back from runners up Helen Dyson and Chris Flatman. They secured the trophy and prizes courtesy of sponsors Living Concepts.

All of the competitors were thanked for playing the games in a good spirit.

Organiser and tournament referee Craig Robinson was also thanked for running the days proceedings.

Attention now turns to the mixed doubles event for the Burton Shield which will take place on Sunday 30th - entries are still welcome.
