Staff at Greengables Care Home in Congleton brought a little light heartedness to their residents by dressing up in celebration of this year's World Book Day.

Taking place today (Thursday), World Book Day was created to celebrate books and authors and encourage people to discover the pleasure of reading.

Dawn Sadler, home manager at Greengables, on Sandbach Road, said: "Greengables staff brought a little light heartedness to all the residents following a tough 12 months.

"We are eagerly awaiting the opening of our doors once again as of Monday to visitors."

People in care homes in England will be allowed one regular indoor visitor from March 8. They must be tested for the virus beforehand and must wear PPE.

Although visitors will be able to hold hands with residents, they will be asked to avoid closer contact such as hugging.

Visits have been allowed in care homes during the latest lockdown but have been restricted under published guidance to outdoor encounters and so-called pod and screen visits.
